Adornments of the Month - January 2014
Happy 2014! Here I am to share some of my favorite bits an baubles with you.
Samantha Rei - Molly Vest - $115
This vest is incredibly versatile, as well as a great conversation piece. It's a fairly straightforward cropped denim vest, but what sets it apart is the dotted sheer back and the amazing "There's No Place Like Home" patch illustrated by Megan Bishop.
Cropped denim vest - Dotted sheer back - "Cyclone Wasteland" patch on the back - Snap front
Geek Details - Brass "London" Cuff
Geek Details is a great geek-girl run shop that I came into contact with through Teslacon several years ago. The owner, Amanda, is quirky, stylish and hilarious. This pieces is a bracelet they offered. Most of their stuff has some sort of geek flair (Dr. Who, Sherlock, etc) and some of it is accessible for the non-geek crowd. I love their snarky tea cups as well.
John Fluevog Shoes - Radios | KCRW (brown) - $249 (Reg $369)
I have been a fan of Fluevogs since high school when I got my first pair, these amazing knee-high Angel Soles. Oh my goodness, they are amazing. If you're unfamiliar, they are a Canadian company that creates beautiful, meticulously designed, stupidly comfortable, incredibly different shoes. I'm super lucky to have been able to pair with them the last several seasons for my looks books and runway shows. I have a pair of the brown KCRWs and they are FANTASTIC! After I used them for the Cyclone Wasteland runway show I knew I had to have them. And people! Now they are on sale!
"The KCRW channels a little bit of Amelia Earhart into a style fit for everyone. This boot is designed to accommodate the foot of any Fluevoger. The knee high lace up has an over-wide tongue that can be adjusted for an individual fit, and a hidden inside zipper means once you've found that perfect position, you don't have to mess around (but you can still mess around with other things). Just like the rest of The Radio Family, The KCRW features an upturned toe, a wider footbed and a tunite heel and sole. Finally, the weathered Atlas leather gives this boot a fun, vintage appeal. Tune in, Turn on, and Vog out!"
The Elixery - "Dessa" - $18
In their own words, "Located in a vintage laboratory in the heart of Minneapolis, The Elixery is an artisan cosmetic house dedicated to old-fashioned craftsmanship." The Elixery is the cosmetics crown jewel of the Twin Cities. They support other local businesses, their lipsticks smell yummy and they are everywhere all the time. This limited edition lipstick was inspired by a local musician, Dessa. They I have one of their sheer reds and it's the perfect summer lipstick. All Elixery lipstick is free of animal testing (cruelty free) and free of animal products (vegan.)
"This limited-edition lipstick was created for Dessa of the Doomtree collective with a charitable cause in mind.
Dessa wanted a matte red lip that didn't pull pink on her golden skin. At first glance, Dessa's skin tone appears pale, but her Puerto Rican ancestry shines through with golden undertones. Golden and yellow undertones, common in most women of color, often cause red lipsticks to look pink. The result...? A color that looks great on Dessa, but also manages to be universally flattering. Dessa is a well known contributor to social justice, and her signature lipstick is no exception. To that end, Dessa will be donating 100% of her share of the proceeds (20% of the profits) to CARE.org, an organization that educates and empowers women. The sale of this lipstick will benefit CARE's POWER WITHIN program, which focuses on educating girls in the poorest developing countries. Through this program, CARE hopes to educate 10 million girls by 2015.Read more about the project here." _______________________________________________________ Have fun perusing and have a fancy and fashionable January!xo,-Samantha
