Emerald City Comic Con 2023
I was going to go to Seattle to meet up with Megan from Apatico to photograph our new collaboration “Like Breathing” and go to ECCC for pirate fun, but now I'll be in two panels. Please join me for:
“As a Crew: Creativity, Fandom, and Found Family in Our Flag Means Death!” (Panelist)
Sat, Mar 4, 2023
3:45 PM - 4:45 PM
Room 323-325
Are you still talking non-stop to anyone who will listen about Our Flag Means Death?! Do you find yourself creating fan art and writing fanfic about our beloved crew? In other words, are you as obsessed with this show as we are? You’re not alone! Part of our obsession stems from (finally!) having a nerdy show that includes diverse representation of characters with LGBTQIA+ identities. Like many genre shows, OFMD also speaks to members of the LGBTQIA+ community because the crew represents a found family. For queer folks, found family, or non-biologically related people who we come to think of as family, can be vitally important.
Join us for a panel discussion that explores themes of found family in OFMD, how the show helped reignite fan creativity, and more! We will spend some time talking with panelists about what the show means to them and how it has helped invigorate their fandom creativity. We’ll also have some audience participation with trivia and maybe even give away some fabulous booty!
“Our Fanfiction Means Death: A Celebration Of Written Work in the OFMD Fandom” (Moderator)
Sun, Mar 5, 2023
2:15 PM - 3:15 PM
Room 323-325
With over 16,000 various works and counting having been published since the show premiered in March of 2022 on AO3, along with the numerous Social Media Alternate Universe (SMAU) fics that have been written or are still works in progress, we invite you to join us in celebrating the works and authors of the Our Flag Means Death fandom.
